Palette Lust: Chalky Pastels

Oh sweet mercy. Somebody certainly indulged themselves in styling this piece from Elle Decoration UK, and frankly I don't blame them. I myself have been reveling in soft and innocent rose pinks, slate blues, and butter yellows for quite some time now–and this photo series perfectly illustrates how quietly impactful they can be when done right.

There's a clean and modern simplicity here that feels very sophisticated in spite of the youthful spirit of these hues. I attribute it to the restrained product sampling, muted tones (these are quite desaturated examples of our colors), and subtle touches like wrinkles, weathered finishes, and cool lighting. This isn't a newborn's nursery, friends.

I'd happily recreate this look in my own home if I had a stark white backdrop upon which to add touches of sunflower, blush, and sky. To keep it from becoming twee, the lines would stay crisp and the textures would focus on ceramics, wovens, linens, and woods. In other words, imagine the resort wardrobe of a very stylish Swede, and you're right on target.

P.S. This pin and this pin totally hit the nail on the head. I told you I'm into this look lately!
