Gallery Wall & Taxidermy for National Painting Week

DIY painted frames faux taxidermy

Last week I let you in on a project I had in the works with Sherwin-Williams for National Painting Week, and I’m so excited to share the results! I've been slowly but surely getting my house in order since moving to LA last November. Putting some art on my walls has been a big goal since the beginning. Art is one of the best ways to introduce color, pattern, and personality into your home—not only through the prints and photos themselves but the way in which you frame them. It's amazing the impact such a simple task can have!

So when Sherwin-Williams asked me to play with the color purple, I immediately knew I wanted to give new life to some of my old frames with a coat of paint. I used their Chip It! app to identify the exact mauve shade of my favorite Clare Vivier clutch (seen here), then picked up the paint from the Sherwin-Williams store two blocks from my house. I chose a hue called Plum Dandy (wouldn't you love to be a paint namer?) and went with their low-VOC Harmony Interior Latex Acrylic Paint so I could do the project inside without worrying about the smell. I had so much fun

DIY frames + taxidermy

Speaking of fun, when I went to the craft store for sponge brushes and paint trays, I spotted these wooden plaques and plastic dinos and of course had to work some faux taxidermy into the gallery wall. The installation is still a work in progress—I've swapped a few pieces out since taking these photos—but the evolution is the best part. There's nothing like being able to dive in when inspiration strikes, and paint is the ultimate low-stress partner for transforming vision into reality!

P.S. See Ashley at The Decorista work some purple magic today too, and peek at all the projects here. The Sherwin-Williams National Painting Week SuperSale starts today and runs through April 22nd, with offers of 40% off paints and stains and 30% off painting supplies. Disclaimer: This project and post are sponsored by Sherwin-Williams. All opinions and words are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that keep The City Sage going!
