Do More of What You Love: Live in the Grey

Live in the grey poster

Since childhood, one of my greatest challenges has been my tendency towards black and white thinking. I'll bet this refrain resounds with a lot of you: "If it's not perfect, it's terrible. If I don't succeed, then I'm a dismal failure." As a mindset, it doesn't leave much room for growth or exploration. In the past year, however, I've been trying to be more gentle with myself while I find a personal and professional middle ground. One resource that I'm loving on the journey is Live in the Grey.

Find the balance between passion and patience

Live in the Grey was launched to help both freelancers and corporate employees blend work with play to derive greater meaning from life. I spoke with co-founder Maneesh K. Goyal on his vision for the siteโ€”which so far has featured everything from tips on how to jumpstart creativity to exclusive interviews with innovators like FEED founder Lauren Bushโ€”and he pointed out an overall lack of support networks for risk-takers. "There is a big sense of fear around risk, the idea that risk can be daunting. So we are going to have more in the education realm, more answers to the question, "How do I get there?"

Which I think is brilliant, because if I had a dollar for every time I've read a motivational article and been left wondering, 'Well that's great but what now…" then I wouldn't have to work at all! The team at Live in the Grey has tons of great stuff on the horizon, including a get-together in LA on August 6 (more details soon) and plenty of original content. In the meantime, if you haven't yet had your daily recommended allowance of play, you'd better get going!

P.S. The poster in these photos is the Live in the Grey philosophy, and I'm giving away this exact version. It's been custom matted and framed buy yours truly (or rather by my friendly local frame shop.) If you'd like to win it, just follow Live in the Grey on Twitter and let me know in the comments! I'll randomly select one person a week from today. XO!
