How to Wear a Maxi Dress: Hackwith Design House

Maxi shirtdress

I've mentioned Hackwith Design House before—back in the summer when I wore their awesome jumpsuit. So when the label's owner and designer Lisa Hackwith asked me to help spread the word about the launch of her fall collection and gorgeous new website, I didn't think twice before I said yes! The plan was that Lisa would send me one of her latest designs to model, and I'd blog about it. Straightforward, yes?

Then I received the dress. It was long. Very long. The sort of long that makes a short-ish girl like me hide it in her closet without trying it on until the absolute last moment when she simply must wear it for photos in order to uphold her end of a bargain. But the moment I slipped into it, I realized I shouldn't have been worried at all. Because everything from Hackwith Design House has magical transformative powers to make you feel like the most stylish, sophisticated woman in the world.

I don't know how Lisa does it, exactly, but I suspect it's a combination of unparalleled fabric and impeccable tailoring (think strategic seams and gathers for a flattering fit, and gorgeous draping for clothing that moves with incredible allure). It certainly can't hurt that each piece is handmade in Minneapolis, in limited editions of twenty-five or less. What I do know is that the designs speak for themselves, and that all I needed to complete the outfit was a wedge heel for a bit of height. Now? This dress spends barely any time in the closet at all!

Photos are by the incredibly talented Meghan Klein of Floataway Studios. A huge thanks to her for doing some awesome shooting with me lately. I can't wait to share more!
