Inspiration: The Lighter Side of Pumpkin

White pumpkins

If one food that has benefited from the Internet, it's the pumpkin. From pumpkin crafts to pumpkin recipes to pumpkin decor, this humble gourd has taken over our social media feeds. I for one have shamelessly fallen victim to pumpkin's nefarious scheme to take over the world. Yesterday a trip to Trader Joe's found me salivating as I stood before a towering display of pumpkin products.

But as I already explained when I shared my recipe for gluten free pumpkin spice cookies, my nutrition choices have me abstaining from the most indulgent of the season's treats (no Starbucks pumpkin scones for this girl.) Yet here are plenty of other ways to get that warm, inviting pumpkin fix—and some of them don't involve eating at all. For example, I'm especially fond of tiny white pumpkins and have a big bowl of them sitting on my dining table next to me as I type.

Here are more ways to satisfy pumpkin cravings. Burn a pumpkin spice candle. Roast pumpkin seeds with a smoky chipotle spice blend. Pamper your skin with a pumpkin enzyme peel. Reserve a set of pumpkin tea towels just for this time of year. Invest in a serious pumpkin carving set—no chintzy plastic for you! Serve everything, even your morning oatmeal, in a ceramic pumpkin bowl. And maybe, just maybe, enjoy a pumpkin spice latte with extra whipped cream on my behalf…?
