Fall Style Essential: The Red Coat

Red coat style

According to everyone who's anyone, the brightly color coat is the season's de rigeur outerwear. And if there's one hue I prefer above all others, it's definitely red. It goes with pretty much everything, it'll never go out of style, and best of all? It has unparalelled mood-lifting powers to raise your spirits and get you through even the coldest, gloomiest months.

Red coat love

I've never had colored coat (unless you count charcoal and navy as colors, which I don't). This year I'm sorely tempted, if only because they seem to complement every style of dress. From tomboys to glam girls, everyone is rocking this shade with aplomb. Even thrown over jeans or sweats for a coffee run in the morning, I love the idea of being a bright spot on a cloudy day.

Red coats for fall

As for the options in stores right now, I'm especially drawn to 80's-inspired cocoon shapes, wide lapels, and of course the traditional duffel. A true fire engine red looks great on most complexions, maroon is best for us pale ladies, and tomato offers a promising option for dark or olive skinned gals. The only thing left for me to do after I find the one I want is wait for these SoCal temps to drop so I can wear it!
