Gallery Wall Inspiration

How to display art

One year ago this Thursday, I moved into my Los Angeles apartment! My journey from having just four walls and a mattress to owning actual furniture has been pretty slow going (remember when it looked like this?) but I'm excited to say that I've made discernible progress in the last little while. I'll be sharing a few updates soon. In the meantime, now that I have the floor more or less filled out, I'm starting to think about the walls!

Art display

I've always known that I want a gallery wall arrangement of some kind. Yet the possibilities seem so endless, I barely know where to start! I'm envisioning a mix of media, from black and white photography to original paintings, and from typography to textile art. In keeping with the rest of my design sensibility, a spare neutral palette with occasional touches of color is most likely to prevail.

My favorite way to find unique art is to scour flea markets and thrift stores. I can spend hours sorting through piles of vintage snapshots! Plus you never know when you'll happen across a quirky canvas like my granny portrait. As for the best place to buy prints online, I can't resist anything involving baby animals and tongue-in-cheek humor. Finally, pages torn from coffee table books can be framed and hung if you're in a pinch. After all, art is in the eye of the beholder!
