Valentine’s Day Bouquets Go Local with Farmgirl Flowers

Shop local. It's such a common refrain these days that we tend to forget what it really stands for. But for the workers, business owners, communities, and even ecosystems that we can sustain with our purchasing power, the phrase will never get old. Admittedly, we don't always have viable local options. And in the case of flowers, most parts of the country can't easily send a fresh, locally grown bouquet to mark a special occasion. Until now, with the arrival of Farmgirl Flowers—a floral design and delivery company on a mission!

Farmgirl Flowers is working to offset the 80% of US-bought flowers that are imported by sourcing their stems entirely in the US. What's more, they're determined to counteract the waste that surrounds the flower industry. Instead of offering hundreds of on-demand options (most of which end up unsold and in the dumpster), Farmgirl creates only one daily arrangement. It means a little less choice for us, but it also means that Farmgirl's waste stands at only 1%—while a traditional flower company tosses 40%! I had never even given thought to where my bouquets come from, but after digging through the industry dirt on the Farmgirl website you can bet I'll be choosing my blooms a lot more carefully now!

P.S. Farmgirl Flowers currently ships throughout California and will soon be available nationwide. Stay tuned to the Farmgirl Flowers Instagram for updates and for tons of beautiful floral inspiration!
