Exploring the Human Animal Bond with Finding Shelter

The relationships we have with our pets are so simple, precious, and pure. With animals there’s nothing to prove. We can be fully ourselves with the knowledge that they’ll accept us exactly as we are. All they ask in return is the same infinite measure of unconditional love. What’s more, with their silly doggie grins and cuddly kitty purrs, they make it so easy to give. Yet the sad truth remains that every day in the United States, animals are abandoned and abused.

The good news, though, is that a little love goes a long way for animals in need, and there are plenty of humans out there willing to give it. A remarkable photo project called Finding Shelter is documenting the human animal bond between shelter dogs and the people who care for them. The work of by photographer Jesse Friedin, Finding Shelter captures rescue volunteers with the dogs whose lives they have changed—and it also shares their personal accounts of how their lives have been forever altered in return as well.

Finding Shelter began as a passion project and is now a Kickstarter with a big mission: publishing Jesse’s heartwarming photos in a book whose sales will raise much-needed funds for shelters and rescue education. Plus a donation to the project doesn’t just help animals in need, it guarantees that a copy of this soon-to-be book will land in your mailbox! Head to the Finding Shelter Kickstarter page for the whole story, including a behind-the-scenes video and some adorable animal antics. Then give your fur baby an extra big snuggle, why dontcha?!
