Interior Design Trends + the 2016 High Point Market Style Report

Last April I attended High Point Market for the first time ever, and what an experience that was! High Point is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world, with over 2000 exhibitors from more than 100 countries. I went as one of the Market’s ‘Style Spotters’, a group of designers and media tasked with scouring the showrooms for trends and happenings. Our findings were then compiled into the High Point Market Spring 2016 Style Report, which was released today and which is full of fabulous finds for the coming season!

While I saw tons of common threads throughout the showrooms, two favorites stood out most. The first was a plethora of wicker, rattan, canework, and other 70’s Key West- inspired materials. But don’t reach for your paisley caftan just yet! The vibe of these woven pieces, which ranged from seating and tables to lighting and lamps, was decidedly updated from their Three’s Company set design predecessors.

The second hot ticket trend was a deep and dramatic shade of green that felt like a sophisticated evolution of the midnight blue we’ve been enjoying the past few seasons. It has major presence but behaves like a neutral in its versatility, appearing as it did on leather sofas and removable chinoiserie wallpaper, earthy ceramic table lamps and plush handwoven rugs; and if you’re looking for the perfect paint color to try this year, you can’t go wrong with this do-all hue!

One additional trend that didn’t make the cut for my portion of the style report—but that’s definitely worth mentioning!—is windowpane check patterns. Fashion has been working this graphic print for a while now, and now it’s looking as good on bedding and sofas as it does on leggy street style stars. It can sway traditional, coastal, or minimalist, and I love how it pairs with stripes, florals, and layered solids. Head to the Style Report for the rest of the Style Spotters team’s observations, and get the jump on your next decor update!
