I did a big closet clean-out last week and confirmed something I already suspected: a sizable chunk of my wardrobe is striped. What’s more, it’s not just striped but the same kind of striped, that classic sailor stripe that’s always en vogue and that brings an effortless ‘French Girl’ touch to any outfit. Seeing my stack of stripes folded neatly on the shelf made me wonder if five blue and white sailor shirts isn’t a bit excessive—favorite summer style staple or no.
While I may reign in my nautically-inspired shopping habits, I’m not about to give up stripes any time soon! Fortunately there’s a plethora of options out there for a hit of graphic summery spirit. Some of them are sporty and bold, like this fab ribbed stripe dress that would segue nicely into fall; and others of them painterly and romantic (the fab Marysia x Sally King Benedict swimwear collection is a gorgeous case in point). I may even explore some stripe-on-stripe action by pairing some of my existing striped tops with a variegated striped skirt on the bottom. Don’t want those sailor shirts to get lonely, after all!
