Mix & Match Dining Style with ATG Stores at Light Lab

Did you catch the big studio tour of Light Lab on design*sponge last week? Now that the space is more or less finished, we’re excited to be putting it out into the world! I’ve got the back story on some of our favorite elements—and since one blog post can only go so deep into a seven month renovation process, I’ll be breaking them up into chunks and sharing them one-by-one here! First up? Our mix and match dining area and workspace from ATG Stores. Shopping for it was like solving the ultimate design puzzle!

As I’ve mentioned before, one of the biggest challenges in creating Light Lab has been finding the happy medium between my neutral, understated style and my business partner Caroline‘s more exuberant taste. When it came time to select a table and chairs, we were at least able to agree on one thing: Our setup should serve equally well for laptop time as for dinnertime as for photo shoot time. To satisfy our functional needs as well as our divergent aesthetic inclinations, we needed lots of options to choose from!

Well, if there’s one thing that ATG Stores has, it’s options. So many amazing ones, in fact, that we immediately tossed the idea of settling on a single type of chair and instead went for a smorgasbord of modern seating styles that all play well together. We paired color and molded plastic for Caroline with steel and bentwood for me, all of it tied together by a common theme of curvy, clean lines and playful silhouettes. We’re able to gather any combination of seating around the table knowing that it will look fantastic no matter which mix we choose—and we’ve even drafted some into our lounge layout as well!

But of course we needed a table to anchor all that mix and match dining goodness, and I knew as soon as I spotted it that I’d found the one. Eight feet long and constructed from powder coated steel and washed oak, it’s a total showstopper of a table. The surface has a sophisticated inlaid herringbone pattern that feels luxe and old world, yet the table’s angular construction and crisp white trim keeps it in the contemporary realm. It’s a dream to style and shoot with, or simply to sit at with my computer, a coffee, and a pat on the back for a mission accomplished.
