Introducing a New Fashion Series: Two Girls, One Kit!

One of the things I love most about Light Lab is that it’s the physical representation of multiple minds coming together to create something greater than themselves. My BFF Caroline Lee and I have been collaborating for years, so to spend these last 12 months combining our two very different aesthetics into a community space for all to enjoy has been satisfying to say the least! Now that we’re able to take a step back and appreciate all that our vision has manifested in the design world, we figured it was time to tackle fashion too. So we’re starting a new series we call ‘Two Girls, One Kit‘, in which we’ll both wear the same piece according to our disparate style sensibilities!

First up are these fab windowpane check pants by the Australian apparel and accessories company Elk. (Caroline’s husband Jayden, the third member of our Light Lab trio, is from Melbourne—so an Aussie label seemed an ideal candidate to kick off this series!) We both loved their wide-legged, high-waisted cut, as well as the fun but still wearable graphic pattern. They’re comfortable for work or play, and are a great closet workhorse with major personality!

I chose to explore the pants’ professional potential by styling them for the office or a meeting with a colleague. A long black vest adds professional polish while a cropped sweater emphasizes the narrowest part of my waist, and open-toed sandals with a unique heel detail boost my leg line as well as my fashion cred. Caroline, on the other hand, took her pants in a playful direction with snappy lace-up oxfords and a printed tank that echos the trousers’ pattern but that adds color to the mix as well. Each look perfectly reflects our individual personalities; and either would turn heads in a major way!
