Birthdays are extraordinarily important in my family. When I was a kid, my mom took great care to make my sister and me feel cherished. We'd wake up to rooms of balloons and stacks of pancakes awaiting us to ring in another year on earth. Not surprisingly, my mother invested this same pleasure in me; I love to make birthdays special for my nearest and dearest. So I was thrilled when Meg Biram asked me to contribute a gift guide for the spring edition of To & From Magazine!
This is the 3rd edition of To & From and I'm honored to be involved; Meg and her partner-in-crime Modern Eve have killed it again. The publication is packed full of gifts for Mother's and Father's Days, grads, weddings, moms-to-be, and of course birthdays! I used my best friend Teal as my muse (more about her here) and thought about the perfect goodies for that gal in your life who is always taking care of others—the one who deserves the best but would never buy it for herself. Birthdays are a great opportunity to shower her in simple luxury.
I included a mix of my favorite indulgences at every price range. I try to consider the senses or the nostalgia factor when shopping for presents, and most of these appeal to at least one if not both of these items elements. Think a keepsake necklace, a richly scented lotion, a soft throw, a custom photo calendar…pieces that will remind her throughout the coming year how loved she is. And isn't that what birthdays are all about?
