Get the Look: Late Summer Picnic Cocktails

Picnic inspiration

What is it about eating outside that makes food taste so much better? I can't answer that question, but as the last few unofficial weeks of summer start to slip away, I'm determined to find opportunities to research a hypothesis. Because one of the nicest things about dining en plein air is that unlike a fancy vacation or an expensive spa retreat, you don't need a ton of money or time to enjoy this escape.

Try it. Right now, take the lunch you're scarfing at your computer and go sit on the curb with it instead. Tonight, eat dinner under the stars. This weekend, pack happy hour sips and snacks for a lounge in the park. (Oh hey, you could make the green juice cocktail recipe I shared on Tuesday!) You have to eat anyway, right? So you might as well get some fresh air while you do it.

Picnic essentials

If you're inclined to art direct the experience, I won't stop you. I myself am a picnic purist and love a good red, white, and wicker combo. Furthermore, I never met a tiffin box I didn't like. Yet don't let a lack of accessories prevent you from taking your meal outdoors—it's the thought that counts, as well as the cool breeze on your face, the warm sun on your skin, and the sense of possibility in every bite.
