The Rundown: Alt Summit 2012

Firstly, let me apologize for being an absent blogger last Thursday and Friday. I was at Alt Summit, and the irony of a blogging conference is that the last thing anyone has time to do there is blog! But I promise to make up for those two missed days and then some–for as usual, the experience of Alt has injected me with an ever-greater vigor and passion for this community we have created!

First: the fun, frivolous stuff. Because for every serious moment at Alt, there was an equally lighthearted one. Take the Winter Wonderland bash on the first night. These photos from Moss + Isaac capture its sparkling effervescence so brilliantly. Ask five hundred stylish women to dress only in white? Give them silver cups of sorbet and mashed potatos in martini glasses? You've got yourself a party!

But even had there been no parties, no sorbet 'n' 'taters, every second of Alt would have been priceless. To see old friends and colleagues in person–and to meet new ones–is a precious opportunity that leaves my heart pounding and my mind racing. The respect, admiration, and awe that I have for everyone who spoke, listened, and engaged at Alt? Let's just say I'm counting the days 'til next year!

P.S. Special mention goes to my fellow 'Kickstarting Your Next Move' panelists Lisa Congdon, Rena Tom, and Liz Stanley. As soon as there's video of that panel available, I'll be sure to share the link.

  1. Your from-the-heart thoughts during your panel definitely made a huge impact on me. In fact, I used your “embrace the fire within” as my alt summation. Thank you for chasing your dreams and making them a beautiful reality for us all to see and enjoy.
p.s. totally love the little fact you used to be a vegan chef!

  2. I’m very excited to see that video! (and I too am counting down the days to 2013!)

  3. Looks amazing and really wanted to thank you for the pure gold tweets you were sending out all weekend! Priceless info right there!:)

  4. I feel like I was there from all the amazing coverage I’ve seen so far. I honestly can’t wait for next year bc I’m going!

  5. WOW! I never thought my shoes would become so famous! Such a pleasure meeting you at ALT in the breakfast line. Looking forward to checking out your blog.

  6. Great pictures! I am eyeing them with envy. Looks like a fabulous weekend. Would love to attend next year!

  7. You were an amazing presenter, Anne. I loved your panel. And loved hearing/seeing someone I’ve followed for so long IN REAL LIFE. Next year I’ll force you to hug me.

  8. From this recap and all the tweets while you were at ALT I felt like I was there. Sounds like tons of fun!

  9. Thanks so much for the sweet post Anne. It was such an awesome conference and we hope to see you there next year. 🙂

  10. Anne, we wanted to finally meet you in person at ALT but alas our paths never crossed. 🙁 Thank you so much for the link and the love of our photos! We need to meet soon!

    Cupcaking Around!

  12. Lovely roundup! I also just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your Kickstarting talk. When you teared up at the end, me and everyone in my entire row went diving in their bags for whatever tissues they could find. Next year Kleenex needs to sponsor. Just saying.
Anyhow, thank you for your lovely inspiring words and advice.
