I've long been a fan of John Robshaw. His signature textiles are instantly recognizable, and there's no question that he's helping to keep ancient Asian printing techniques alive by creating demand for them here in North America. Now John has released a book called John Robshaw Prints, which tells the story of his discovery of these crafts and the creation of his company. It's a beaut!
I've shared just a couple images here because I really do want you to go out and get this one. John delves deep into the history of his company, shares photos of artisans from his facilities and even a few hilarious childhood snapshots. It's fascinating to understand not only his love of this artform, but also his deep commitment to the printers who carry on the traditions of their homelands.
In conjunction with the release of the book, John has also created notebooks and stationery–for those of us who want just a dash of block printing in our lives! The writing paper comes with address labels and falls into the category of 'too pretty to use', so I've arranged it on my desk where I stare at it. That counts as home decor, right?

I have a cute luggage tag by John Robshaw – it a block printed elephant cut out that dangles off my carry-on. We have been parading all over the world that elly and I 🙂
I know exactly what you mean about paper being too pretty to use. It’s a sad feeling when something so pretty is used up.
