One of the best things about Halloween (aside from the costumes and the candy, of course) is decorating for the occasion. As a kid, I loved to help my mom hang felt bats from trees, stretch cotton "cobwebs" across every possible surface, even stick faux granite tombstones into the lawn. And while it's been ages since I lived in a place with a yard, that hasn't stopped me from indulging in my love of spooky decor over the years!
So when Target kindly sent along a few pieces from their 2013 Halloween collection, I didn't waste a moment transforming my bookshelves into a spooky yet sophisticated homage to All Hallows Eve. In keeping with my recent affinity forghost pumpkins, I stuck with a black and white scheme accented by touches of metallic.
The process was simple: I picked up white roses from the grocery store, popped them into creepy brass claw bowls, added a couple skull accents (those are actually salt and pepper shakers!), and swapped some books around to complement the palette. It makes me want to host a Halloween party entirely in keeping with this look! Or maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to eat Oreos and sip chocolate chip milkshakes with striped straws…?
I never would have thought it before this post, but I think I’m going to have to add white roses to my Halloween shopping list. LOVE this!
Thanks, Anne 🙂
loving white pumpkins right now.
Host a Night Circus party. Have you read it? It’s a dark fantasy — beautifully written — for adults. The whole circus is black and white themed. Gorgeous. And who doesn’t have enough black & white in her closet to pull together a costume? Add dramatic eye liner and red lips, and you’re done.
