We live in dark times, my friends. The climate has gone haywire, once-thriving American cities are filing for bankruptcy, and the sweatshirt represents the height of fashion. In moments such as these, it's important to pick your battles. And because I only have so much stamina, I'll be taking the energy I might have directed into a protest against haute terrycloth and diverting it instead towards important issues like the enviroment and human rights.
I guess that means that I'm embracing the sweatshirt trend by default. Which seems apropos, given the garment's long history as the lazy girl's path of least resistance. My current selection of apathetic apparel ranges from a college hoodie that's long since lost its legibility to an ink-stained zip-up sported solely when taking out the trash. If we're gonna do this thing, I suppose I should upgrade.
Because these days it's not enough to roll out of bed, throw on your guy's workout wear, and call it an outfit. Chic sweatshirts require effort both in the design and in the styling. The former includes head-scratching sayings and pre-frayed edges, the latter a leather jacket, a slim skirt, and even heels. Sure it's a lot to expect from a item heretofore reserved for weekend lounging. But if it means saving a few more polar bears, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
great post, perfect collection- i’m in love with the black with skirt- outfit!!
and i looove the sgt pepper’s sweater… would you give a hint?:)
Hi Anne. Where is the indigo and white tie-dyed sweatshirt from? Thanks!
Love these statement sweatshirts. And, I adore the outfit with the leather skirt.
The “yeah i guess” sweater has to be my favorite!
I love that sweatshirt tunic / dress–the wide knit hem at the bottom elevates it from just a regular sweatshirt, and looks chic and comfy with the scarf and bag. Too bad it’s not one I can actually buy. 😉
