Yesterday I shared my fondess for the dark florals that seem to have taken hold of our collective aesthetic consciousness this season. So today I figured I'd do a little round-up of products to get the look. It seemed like such a good idea at the time! Throw a few fun, fanciful knickknacks your way, chat a bit about spring, blah blah blah. But after two hours spent sorting through ornately printed apparel and accessories, I feel like a mob girlfriend planning outfits for Vegas.
Which I guess is a creative way of saying that this whole florals thing is easier said than done. In carefully styled interiors shots or on the figures of daring street style girls, a blazing field of roses, poppies, and ranunculi looks positively smashing. But on the racks or in my online shopping cart, those same blooms just scream 'My Cousin Vinnie: The Sequel'.
But maybe I'm being a touch dramatic. It's just fashion, after all! So dabble in dahlias with a scarf or shoes. Play with peonies on a tee or a bag. You might straddle the fence between on-trend and tacky, but it's not like someone will call a sartorial hitman if you stumble rather than gracefully tiptoe through these tulips. This is one instance in which it's okay to be pushing up roses.
