Meet Sadie the Puppy!

Dachshund puppy

I'm very excited to introduce you to my sweet new puppy, Sadie! I adopted her a week ago from a rescue agency and already I can't imagine life without her. Sadie is about 7 months old, and the vet thinks she's a combination of miniature dachshund and chihuahua. But as far as I'm concerned she's mix of boudless energy, warm snuggles, and wet doggie kisses.

Having a dog has required a major shift in mindset as I've only had cats until now. I'm not a natural disciplinarian, so I'm still adjusting to the idea that structure, discipline, and tough love are to her benefit. We've definitely had a lot of 'this hurts me more than it hurts you' moments! Any puppy training tips are welcome, and of course puppy fashion tips too 🙂

  1. As one design lover to another, this is the best tip I’ve got (and the one that’s kept me sane for the past 12 years as a pup owner): if your dog is allowed on your furniture, get rid of ANYTHING that is not puppy friendly–whatever that means for your pup. Mine sheds like a mofo, and so we only do leather couches now, no white sheets, etc. Figure out what works design-wise for your pup and make your life way easier! As for training, many will disagree with me, but my dog is super duper food motivated and I have always used it as a training tool with much success. We always leave our pup with a kong when we go out and that keeps him busy for awhile. Sadie is super adorable! Hooray for doggies!

  2. I love her! I’ve had dogs my whole life so I can give a few suggestions. Routine is so important.
Be sure to take her out first thing in the morning
to take care of business and be consistent through out the day to avoid accidents.I also recommend alot of dog toys so she doesn’t get bored and start chewing other things. She will also need at least 1 walk a day. Congrats:)

  3. amazing isn’t she. lots of love will make her love u and want to please you…. in time

  4. I love the picture of her sleeping. She’s so adorable! Did you get her from a local agency? Which one? Enjoy!

  5. Congrats, Anne! She’s adorable. Maybe we have another Dash & Albert catalog model here? 😉

  6. Congrats on the addition to your home. She looks absolutely adorable – such a pretty little pup! Looking forward to following along with your adventures!

  7. She is sooo cute. My only advice is put the onus on you to keep things out of reach, even the best behaved little rascal will make the occasional mistake.
