My obsession with marble started last Christmas. For years my mom has had a marble board that she's used in the kitchen for everything from rolling out pies to serving cheese and crackers at parties. I couldn't stop admiring it when I was home visiting her for the holidays, and all of a sudden (strangest thing!) it had found its way into my luggage and back across the country with me.
Ever since, I've fallen madly in love with marble. I have to stop myself from taking every Instagram photo with my board as the backdrop, and everywhere I turn I seem to encounter folks with a similar appreciation for the hard stuff. Marble abounds on Pinterest, from kitchen backsplashes to IKEA hacks, and the stores are filled with swirly stone goodness.
The great thing about marble is that while a lot is fantastic, a little still rocks (pun intended), which is nice becase dang, this stuff's pricy! As a lamp base or tabletop you can get a ton of marble bang for your buck, plenty to tide you over until the powers that be figure out a way for us to swath the bathroom in carrera without breaking the bank. And in an extreme pinch, some marble print contact paper will have you covered—literally!

Sounds like a lovely gift your Mom gave you – and I love all the memories behind it. I’m a big marble fan too. I don’t think we actually own anything marble though now that I’m thinking about it….but I have marbled papers, and now fabrics.
