Remember last month when I told you I'd be partnering with Jawbone to tracking my actvities with the Jawbone UP24 wristband? Well I've been wearing the UP24 religiously for the last four weeks and now it's time to share my experience. While I went into this project expecting to learn a bit about my habits, and perhaps adjust my behavior a smidge, I definitely couldn't have foreseen how fascinating and frankly life-changing this little device has been.
The biggest and most immediate observation was that although I consider myself an "active" person, I'm actually extremely sedentary. Most days I barely reach a quarter of the recommended 10,000 steps—and that includes twice daily dog walks! So I started putting in the effort to move more. I lengthened my outings with the pup and even added a midday one whenever I could; I found excuses to walk around the neighborhood, like strolling to the ATM rather than depositing a check with my phone. And on days when I hit (or exceeded) those 10,000 steps, I noticed my stress levels were lower and my sleep was much improved. Plus I felt a genuine thrill of accomplishment, having met that challenge for myself.
The funny thing about setting and meeting health goals is that even if you're only doing it in one area of your life, it trickles into others without your realizing it. The accountability created by the UP24 and its app (which anyone can download and use to track activities, sleep, and food, even if they don't have the wristband) not only increased my activity level, it made me think twice about taking that extra bite of dessert, inspired me to add more variety to my fitness routine with bike rides and new workout classes, and even got me to schedule some doctors appointments I'd been avoiding. In other words, the Jawbone UP24 puts health at the forefront of your mind, where it can't help but have a positive impact. I plan to keep wearing the wristband even though my trial period has ended—it's just that good!
Disclosure: I received product and compensation in exchange for this review. However all opinions are my own, and I'm genuinely grateful for this eye-opening experience!
I was so excited when you blogged about the UP24…and now this review! I need to get one:)
That’s awesome. I currently have a fitbit flex and it has helped a lot for the same reasons.. but lately it will not hold a charge. trying to decide if I want to replace it with an UP24 or a misfit shine. Is the UP24 comfortable on your wrist?
