I live in a Craftsman bungalow that was built sometime in the early 20th century. Although it hasn't been especially well maintained over the years, most aspects of the house are serviceable. Some are even charming! The bathroom is, unfortunately, neither of those things. The tile is falling off the wall, the mildew is in places impenetrable, and the total square footage rivals that of a postage stamp. It majorly cramps both my style and my personal grooming routine!
Because I rent, I'm stuck with what I've got. I'm sure as heck not in a position to retile or remove the rotting cupboards that a previous occupant foolishly installed above the shower! Which leaves me longingly pinning perfect bathroom photos, keeping my hopes up for my dream home in the distant future and my eyes peeled for quick and easy bathroom decor updates in the meantime.
Lately I'm drawn to black and white details that straddle the line between modern and traditional, and that lend an air of composed calm to the bathroom. Contemporary accents like a marble toothbrush cup or ceramic tray corral toiletries in style, while potted succulents and natural bristle body brush lend an organic touch. Finally, framed fine art photography puts an artful shine on even the dingiest of spaces. Now if anyone has tips for stemming the tide of crumbling grout, I'm all ears!
