At the ripe old age of 32, I've learned a couple things about myself. The first is that when it comes to the hottest trends, I'm better off leaving them to others (memories of such fashion missteps as suspender shorts and bellbottom overalls confirm this finding). The second is that once I know what I like, I stick with it in a big way. A recent shopping excursion found me with a fitting room full of breezy tees, striped sailor shirts, and distressed cutoffs—all of them identical to items already in my closet at home!
For the most part it feels good to have found what works for me rather than to chase constantly after what doesn't. Yet there's a fine line between being consistent and being in a rut. So when Zappos asked me to share a few of my top spring style picks, I seized the opportunity to explore how to rework my tried-and-trues. Could I inject a little variety into my wardrobe but still feel like myself?
With their seemingly endless selection and exhaustive search function, Zappos made it a breeze to update my wardrobe for spring. I added interest to my go-to silhouette of boyfriends and a button down with these patchwork jeans from one of my favorite designers. And my usual cloth slip-ons will be taking a backseat to these leather espadrilles with their sporty perforated texture and a flatform sole. Plus Zappos' fast, free shipping makes it easy send back what doesn't suit. Because even if you think you know yourself, it's still fun to experiment with your style now and then—and maybe even surprise yourself in the process!
P.S. More spring style inspiration! Outfit Info: Patchwork Boyfriend Jeans, Oversized White Button Down, Perforated Leather Espadrilles, Leather Backpack, Panama Hat, Sunglasses. Thank you for supporting the brands that keep The City Sage going!
