With yesterday's solstice, we've officially entered summer! And there's no better way to celebrate the arrival of our juiciest, most bountiful season than with a bundle of fresh blooms. Late June in particular is the floral sweet spot: the last of the peonies are still showing their pretty faces, the first of the dahlias have begun to appear, and the garden roses are in full swing!
With so many of our favorite blossoms flourishing right now, it's practically a no-brainer to make them the centerpiece of your summer entertaining! Last week I got a major hit of inspiration when I attended a flower-themed brunch. The event was hosted by BloomThat, a same-day flower delivery service with an awesome app—think Uber for flowers. The BloomThat mission is to make it easy to brighten someone's day with a chic bouquet, and without the accompanying sticker shock!
The brunch was full of fabulous ideas for incorporating flowers into your next affair. Not only did small arrangements add personality to each table, but blossoms brightened individual cocktails as well as generous serving trays of french toast berries. However the piece de resistance was a market-style spread of stems in aluminum buckets. Guests created their own hand-tied bouquets, choosing from a selection that included everything from sunflowers to spray roses to scabiosa! The display was an ice-breaker, a decor showstopper, and a party favor all wrapped into one. I can't wait to recreate it for birthdays, bridal or baby showers, or a just-because-it's-summer bash!
