Last week I attended a dinner party with the dreamiest take-home favors: a DIY bouquet bar fully stocked with a rainbow’s worth of tulips and sweet peas, hellebores and hyacinths. On the drive home, my backseat could barely contain the mass of petals and greenery; and the next morning, I delighted in pulling from my collection of vintage and modern vases and creating a multitude of tiny arrangements to tuck into the various nooks and crannies around the house. I’ve been enjoying them ever since, repositioning and rearranging them as my fancy strikes. It’s like Spring herself has stopped in for an extended sleepover!
Indeed, an injection of fresh flowers is the most affordable, accessible, and satisfying of home spruce-ups. This time of year I especially love the pairing of earthy, minimalist containers with rambling, romantic blooms. The juxtaposition perfectly encapsulates the transition from the bare landscape of winter to the verdant explosion of spring. I keep on-hand a rotating collection of pitchers, bowls, and other vessels with a raw sensibility. Handmade vases are of course lovely, but big box standbys like Crate & Barrel or West Elm have some charming and inexpensive options too. Whatever the source, look for clean lines and muted tones—the better to let Spring in all her glory take center stage!
