Have you heard of Sseko Designs? I first learned about this incredible ethical fashion brand four years ago, when founder Liz Forkin Bohannon spoke at a conference I was attending. Back then, Sseko's philanthropic business model was a relatively new one—the leather shoes and accessories the company sells are handmade by Ugandan women earning wages for college tuition—but Liz shared her story with such passion and conviction that I knew I was in the presence of a true visionary.
Today, it's nearly impossible to keep track of all the fashion labels doing incredible work for the communities in which they're based. A good problem to have, as far as I'm concerned! As for Sseko, the collection has expanded from it's original traditional sandal design to include everything from ballet flats and bucket bags to clutches and scarves—touching the lives of over 50 Ugandan women and their families in the process!
Now, to help spread the word about giving back in style, Sseko has partnered with several globally-minded fashion brands for a summer giveaway! The winner will receive some serious loot: a pair of Sseko Designs T-Strap or Ribbon Sandals, a Chaser Maxi dress, a Baggu Carryall or Standard Bag, a Lomography Diana or Sardina Camera, and a pair of Etnia Barcelona AFRICA 04 sunglasses. Enter the giveaway here, and while you're at it be sure to read more about the Sseko's misson and impact. I promise you'll feel a major hit of Monday inspiration!
