Even though I love style, enjoy following trends, and have fun incorporating the ones I like into my wardrobe, I loathe how throwaway and frivolous the fashion cycle can feel. After all, who amongst us has the budget (or the conscience) to replace nearly new clothes when they start to feel dated six months later? It doesn't matter how much I adore a piece; if I can't visualize how I'll wear it when the seasons change, I'll leave it on the rack.
Such was the case with the blanket capes that stormed the scene last fall. You already know my affinity for pajama dressing, so it should come as no surprise that I was thrilled with the idea of wearing bedding in public without drawing stares. But would the look translate to the warmer months? After much humming and hawing I succumbed and picked up this Zara cape, but only after I promised myself that I'd find as many ways as possible to sport it come spring.
So far I'm making good on that promise! Not only is the cape perfect for tossing over jeans and a tee, I'm finding it surprisingly versatile with more sophisticated looks. A white linen midi dress pairs nicely with the cape for a swingy springtime feel, while the black, white and tan palette resides comfortably in my minimalist neutral wheelhouse. When it comes to getting the most out of trend-driven pieces, the lesson is that where there's a will there's a way!
Shopping Guide: This Zara cape is unfortunately sold out, but ASOS has tons of great blanket capes, many of which are deeply discounted now! Faircloth & Supply Linen Dress. Anine Bing Biker Boot. RTH Hat. Photography by Sarah Hrudka.
So fun! and i’m wearing my blanket cape at work today over jeans to keep my warm- can’t wait to try it for spring 🙂
