I consider myself a pretty good gifter. I love combing the shops for the ultimate present, one that conveys a level of thought that reflects my care and appreciation for the recipient. So when Zappos contacted me to be a partner in their #ZapposPresentPalooza challenge, I was excited to put my gifting skills to the test! The challenge was to shop the Zappos gift guide for the perfect holiday surprise—with the catch being that I'd be buying something for a complete stranger.
My buddy for the challenge was Juley Le of Upperlyne & Co. Armed only with Juley's Instagram, I spent hours scouring Zappos' massive selection of top-notch labels. It was ridiculously fun to fill my shopping cart with everything from designer jeans and handbags to jewelry and homewares. The hard part was narrowing things down for Juley's gift. In the end I settled on a cozy Kate Spade blanket scarf, MARC by Marc Jacobs earrings in the shape of pretzels, and fuzzy shearling slippers—all of them inspired by a 'hibernate in style' philsophy that I thought Juley would appreciate. We even had the opportunity (albeit inadvertently) to take advantage of Zappos' fast, free shipping when I accidentally sent Juley's items to myself and had to order her a replacement in time for her own blog post (forehead smack)!
As much fun as it was to buy for Juley, I didn't have terribly high expectations for the gift I was set to receive from Juley (I've already told you how hard I am to shop for!) Yet she managed to thrill me with a chunky cowl-neck Free People sweater that I've been wearing non-stop since it arrived in the mail; a wide-brim Michael Stars hat that is perfect year-round for Los Angeles; and a cute leather coin purse just in time to replace the wallet I had stolen! Either I'm not as hard to shop for as I thought, or Juley put Zappos to work finding the perfect gift for picky old me. Proof that with the right help, you can delight even the most impossible recipients on your list this season!
