How to Wear It: Printed Pants for Winter

Wrap blanket coat

Contrary to what you might imagine, Los Angeles does get chilly in the winter. However it's a fickle kind of cold, the sort that starts with a snap in the morning and can either last all day or burn off steadily until it's noon and you find yourself mopping the perspiration from your brow. And since multiple wardrobe changes isn't generally an option, combining breezy basics with cozier pieces really is de rigeur around here.

These days I'm especially drawn to lightweight silk trousers (like these printed slouch pants by The Odells) for those what-the-heck weather days. For starters, anything that looks put-together but feels like pajamas is good in my book. But more importantly, they pair equally well with a wool coat, scarf, and sweater as they do with a lightweight tee—meaning I can layer up before I leave the house in the morning and peel items off as necessary.

And then, of course, there's the fun print factor at play here. I'm usually a total pattern-phobe but something about wearing eyecatching prints on the bottom instead on top or all over seems doable. It helps that the subdued palette of these particular pants behaves almost like a neutral when paired with a plum jacket and rust hued cashmere tunic, making for an ensemble that stradles the line between intriguing and refined. At least until the noonday sun hits and I have to shed a few layers, that is!

  1. I wish we had those kinds of winters in Norway… I love your handbag! I see Cuyana popping up on so many blogs these days, so I simply have to check out this brand/shop. Thanks for the inspiration!
