While I was working on the book this past summer I got into a real rut when it came to getting out and socializing. By nature I've never been much of a party animal, and the excuse of being tied to my desk made it easy to turn down invitations. Trouble is, now that I've handed in my manuscript I still find myself stuck in the homebody habit. It's high time to crawl out from under my rock!
So last Saturday saw me happily shrugging out of my pajamas and into some clothes fit for public consumption. The bedding label Parachute was teaming up with chef-for-hire company Kitchensurfing to present 'Brunch in Bed'. The event was open to anyone who bought a ticket for the multi-course Korean meal, which meant I found myself surrounded by strangers. And believe it or not I'd never eaten Korean before, so I was thrilled to have a chance to sample the cuisine as well as brush up on my small talk.
But my favorite aspect of the occasion was the decor. Styled by LA design firm West Haddon Hall, the seating (or shall I say lounging) arrangements were relaxed and welcoming yet utterly chic. Though the palette and materials were suited to our Venice location, you could so easily adapt this idea for any backyard entertaining. I'm thinking a fall feast with plaid blankets and knit pillows amongst the fallen leaves. Just add low tables made from planks and milk crates and you're in business!

Looks like a really lovely evening. Love the tablescape! And I wonder why we don’t dine on floors more often? This must be a great way to get cozy and comfortable with company.
