My handbag wardrobe can be divided into three sizes: big, bigger, and gargantuan. My favorite scene in Mary Poppins is the one in which Mary pulls a lamp from her carpetbag; she's clearly a girl after my own heart. But my affinity for the massive purse doesn't serve me well on occasions that call for a smaller bag. Evenings out, for example, or just the days when I don't feel like slinging half my bodyweight over one shoulder.
So this season's crop of demure cross body bags has not escaped my notice. Mostly 'cause I'm in awe of the many stylish folks who can dash out the door with so little in their possession. How do they carry their workout clothes for an impromptu barre class? What about a pencil and crossword puzzle book in case they get bored? Is there even a compartment for an emergency jar of peanut butter? The physics of it all simply defies comprehension.
Still though, if I've got to downsize, then now is the time to do it as there's no shortage of options out there. The new shoulder bags from Cuyana are my favorite of the bunch, not only for their clean lines and minimalist adornment but becuase the color selection is stunning. I'm also looking into getting my own shrinking machine like the one in 'Honey I Shrunk the Kids'. The thought of leaving the house without a three day supply of magazines, water, and granola bars makes me more than a little nervous!

I’m a big proponent of small bags. It just makes life so, so much easier. I’d love to get another one in forest green!
