Anyone who has lived in a city for any length of time can tell you that the greatest interior design luxury isn’t a freestanding tub or a Viking stove. Nope, it’s storage. With zero closet space to speak of, we small-space dwellers are forced to create our own storage—and because those storage solutions stare us in the face most of the time, it sure helps if they’re stylish as well as useful! A case in point? Floating nightstands: They’re a perfect example of form meets small-footprint function for miniscule homes.
The unassuming grace of floating nightstands belies both their serviceability as well as the statement they make in the aesthetics of a space. With something as simple as a wall-mounted box shelf, a tight bedroom can suddenly accommodate a lamp, a phone dock, a few decor accents, and any other touches of personality that strike your fancy. Plus they leave space on the floor for a pair of bedside slippers (or in my case, the shoes I couldn’t be bothered to put away before bed!)
Plus there’s something about floating nightstands’ streamlined sensibility that speaks to a commitment to minimalism. I’m especially fond of the ones that are the same hue as the wall, so they blend right in with monochromatic aplomb. Just looking at them makes me want to keep my bedroom more tidy, don’t you agree? We might even go so far as to say that floating nightstands are the gateway drug to a cleaner, more carefully edited home!
