Immediately before I boarded a plane to Italy, a very exciting event went down. Light Lab, the creative + event space I’ve been working on in LA, hosted our very first event—and it was a rousing success! Together with Spring Street Social Society, a members-only organization that hosts unique suppers and gatherings around the country, we held a sit-down dinner party for 4o guests. A 5-course menu was accompanied by a seemingly endless flow of wine, conversation, and even live entertainment. It was a night to remember, for sure.
In keeping with chef Joshua Pressman‘s Mediterranean-inspired menu, we incorporated the vivid hues and bountiful vibes of that region into the decor. With help from the Nouveau Romantics, we lined the tables with summer dahlias, roses, and peonies in juicy shades of red, pink, and orange. A river of aqua silk ran down the center and anchored a display of pomegranates and kumquats intermingled with jasmine and clematis. Hundreds of simple column candles provided their glowing light by which to dine.
In addition to a meal that included smoked lamb, dolmas, and roasted beet greens, we enjoyed strawberry and chocolate pies from pastry chef Nicole Rucker of Rucker’s Pie—served a la mode with Jeni’s Ice Cream. As well, we had some generous assistance from KitchenAid in putting on the event; one guest even went home with their new Mini Stand Mixers! To see people coming together and filling our new space with such vibrant and joyful energy was truly gratifying. We can’t wait to keep the good times coming!
