Two Girls, One Kit: The Off-the-Shoulder Top by Sachin & Babi

Today’s installment of Two Girls, One Kit perfectly exemplifies why Caroline and I started this series in the first place. It’s so easy to get into fashion rut, wearing the same things day in and day out, seeing pieces that intrigue you but writing them off as ‘not your style’. Our goal was to push our fashion boundaries and experiment with trends that we might otherwise shy away from, and we certainly both explored new sartorial territory this week!

When off-the-shoulder tops first started showing up on runways and in street style pics, I immediately wrote them off as not for me. Too girly, too fussy, too shapeless for a busty gal like yours truly! But when we spotted this simple black number from Sachin & Babi, I was willing to give it a whirl! After all, I’m game to try anything once—plus the clean lines and luxe Italian faille material make this blouse the cream of the off-the-shoulder crop!

I sought to dress the top down by pairing it with my favorite wide-legged undone hem jeans. They’re an unexpected alternative to the skinny jeans I’d instinctively wear with this top, and I kinda dig how they a-line of the blouse is mirrored by that of the jeans. Their cropped length shows off these stunning FREDA SALVADOR lace-up boots, which give the ensemble a punk edge. Finally, a silk bandana is an on-trend way to break up the expanse of skin revealed by the top (and distract from the odd sunburn I got right before we shot these photos!). Because of the bandana at my neck, I tucked the ties at my cuffs into my sleeves so that I wouldn’t be sporting three bows. It was an easy way to streamlined the look of the blouse even further!

Speaking of streamlining, let’s talk about Caroline’s sleek over-the-knee boots! Her outfit is simple yet so effective for letting the top shine. Peeks of skin on her shoulders and below her shorts echo each other, and the low heel of the boots provide just enough leg-lengthening lift without being too va-va-voom. A simple stack of brass bangles adds texture to this easy combo that would be perfect for a weekend afternoon date. What do you think: Are on riding the off-the-shoulder bandwagon? How would you style this piece?!
