Ski Lodge, Italian Style

Do you ski? Oh gosh, not me. When I was 5 my dad took me to the slopes at Tahoe. A few minutes into the 'adventure', I fell face first into the snow, burst into tears, and convinced him to spend the rest of the afternoon dragging me behind him on an innertube. But the art of aprèsski? That I do very well. And this home from Marie Claire Maison Italia has my name all over it.

Here's how I play the aprèsski game. It's very important to send the skiiers off with bellies full of a hot breakfast, ready to tackle the hills. So I happily provide that for them. Fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, dripping with gooey icing await them as they step out the door, skis over their shoulders. Then I laze about the place while they get wet and freezing cold in pursuit of 'fun'.

'Round about mid-afternoon, when the light starts dying and I know my hungry sportsfolks are heading home soon, it's time to hit the kitchen again. I do love to cook up a storm for a tired and hungry crowd. Tonight we'll do risotto, perhaps, with sauteed wild mushrooms and red wine? Roasted veggies like asparagus and brussels sprouts on the side, and something sinfully chocolate for dessert…

So while I may not be one for strapping my boots to two long, flat, narrow thingamajigs and skidding down an icy mountain, I do love winter sports. After all, someone has to hold down the fort while all those crazies who do like to ski, and it should be someone who understands that at the beginning and the end of the day, nothing is better than warm, comforting carbs and a toasty hug!

  2. That is so cute. I would be one of the ones skiing, but I know I would appreciate a nice hot meal especially after skiing!

  3. You’re a girl after my own heart, Anne ~ the après-ski is much more my cup of glüwein! I wish you were here to whip up some of that risotto right now. Better get myself off to the kitchen.

  4. My husband and I are in our early 30’s. We’ve been married for a year and a half. He is a mechanical engineer with a small aeronautics company and I work for our family plumbing business, running the office and warehouse. I also have a Masters in Teaching which I use for a few hours a week tutoring at a local center. We have many animals, but no kids yet; however we are planning on having them as soon as nature cooperates. I will probably not continue tutoring after we have kids. I do it more as a hobby than as an income stream.

  5. When you work on finding and then absorbing some information, maybe from the net or a book, you may feel, as many do, that you aren’t a very good learner. Things don’t make sense to you, even when you seem to work hard at them. Others find it sometimes easy (and sometimes not) to create their own understanding and meaning so that they feel they have made sense of something. How do you make sense of information? Do you prefer to read it, hear it, or work through something with someone else? If you need to remember this information or acquire a skill, how do you do so in order to be able to apply it to a related or new situation? You have learned some impressive things in your life, amongst them: how to talk and write your mother tongue, how to tie your shoe laces and tie a tie. All these are demanding tasks so you do have plenty of learning skills.

  6. Wow, this has to be my dream chalet – traditional with a modern twist and all the comfort of both. Love all the books & big comfy sofa – perfect for those days when it’s a whiteout and the fireside beckons. BTW I can do ski and apres-ski – and fall over in both!!!

  7. This ski lodge is absolutely beautiful, how much does it cost to stay on this ski lodge? The style of the house adds a relaxing feeling in a way. I can imagine myself sitting in the sofa while sipping my hot chocolate.

  8. Love your list! Any list with Heath Ceramics is one worth wishing for. 🙂 Happy Holidays!

  9. Apparently, the zoo will split up the couple soon for breeding season. Zookeepers want them to breed with females to help with populating their species, which is endangered. If Buddy and Pedro want to be back together once breeding season ends, they can.

  11. Each role is one with 8 smartbombams aboard, the former are doomed – smartbombs will easily destroy NPC battlships. Dreadnoughts are powerful assault vehicles, used primarily to being a pirate is dangerous, and it is important to do everything right. Such income is also possible to sell or recycle. This will change movement tactics sicne the effect of implants to drawings. It’s
better to use any other pilot in the power of scanning.

  12. We made big pots of pasta and had spaghetti dinners; we had pre-party parties; we had TV watch parties; we had birthday parties; and we had Christmas parties. The photo is from one such Christmas party. It was 1995, and we certainly dressed the part. My closest friends and I baked cookies and breads and made dips and worked tirelessly on our little holiday party menu; we even had an annual ornament exchange. And aren’t we cute?
