One of the fun things about Rue is the chance to work with major talents in the industry–to see what they have up their sleeves for us at home. Case in point: kind and clever event designer David Stark, who just launched a product line called WOOD SHOP. Not only did we get to style a Rue Valentine's Day shoot with his goodies, but David gave us the scoop on the thinking behind the collection!
From placemats that pay homage to a woodworker's apron to sculptural items constructed from plywood, the WOOD SHOP line is so evocative I can almost smell the sawdust. As David told us, "Much of the props, furniture, and magic we create for our events are built in our wood shop. The light bulb went on when I realized [it's] all stuff I would like to have in my own home."
I adore how the collection straddles the line between fun and refined. And that was David's goal: "I'm very proud of the collection because although there are some charming and quirky items in it, the craftsmanship and minimalism of the pieces propel them to a place that is not about kitsch."
