Holiday Song: Ho Hey by The Lumineers

I know it's a holiday here in the States, and many of us are away from our computers, spending time with friends and family. That's exactly as it should be. But here's a little something just in case you're at your desk like I am. It's a song that I can't get out of my head–one that reminds me of what this day is all about for me: heritage, remembrance, family, love.

The tune is called 'Ho Hey' by a trio called The Lumineers. These guys (and a gal!) are Americana through and through. You'll hear guitar and mandolin, stomp-and-clap, shouts of joy and sorrow, lyrics that tug at you with their pure and simple truth. There's a loneliness to this song that is at once sad but also strong. And of course the video is blogger candy.

For me, growing up as an American in Canada, the 4th of July was a quiet, reflective holiday–which is why I think this song resonates so much at this moment. We didn't have the big fireworks, the huge barbecues. We quietly celebrated our red, white, and blue, plus our maple leaf adopted homeland too, and just sang a 'Ho Hey' for what we had. So whatever you do today, enjoy!
