Tuesday Tune: Modern Love by Matt Nathanson

This song has been out for a while now, but I can't stop playing it. I mean literally, over and over again, when I'm in the car, when I'm on a run, when I wake up and sip my coffee while James Bond the Cat sits on my lap…I just set it on an endless loop and listen nonstop, singing at the top of my lungs when the situation allows. Matt Nathanson's Modern Love is JUST. THAT. GOOD.

It's cheesy. It's sappy. It's totally poppy ear candy. And I'm shamelessly addicted. From the steady kick drum and pulsing piano chords to the song's protagonist–a girl who sings, "Take the phone calls, Take this circus, Take the drama, cause baby it's worthless"–this tune is guaranteed to grab you and hold on tight. If you've ever craved that deeper connection, you'll appreciate this one.

Plus get a load of the music video, which gave me chills when I watched it. Love is such a tricky word, easily thrown around, easily rescinded. But there are moments (my favorite is the ballerinas both little and big!) when even the word love seems irrelevant in the scope of what we could do if we stopped worrying so much and just…well…danced. So turn up the volume and groove with me, won't you?

P.S. Let's not forget about Matt Nathanson himself. He's a San Francisco boy, and he's pretty easy on the eyes, no? Images: 1, 3, 7. Woodnote Photography. 5, 6, 8. The Why We Love Photography. 2. 4

  1. A perfect song to start a new day with! Love it

  2. Yep. I’m pretty glowy after watching that. Definitely need to dance all over life. Thank you for sharing!
