Key Piece: The Pleated Dress

Summer dresses

This is the fifth and final post in a series I began last March when InStyle named their must-have picks for spring. I've been putting it off because, well, I simply wasn't excited about this trend. But I wanted to finish what I started, so I've soldiered on. The more I gathered images and pulled product, the more I became enthused about these fun, floaty, flirty warm weather dress styles.

Styling for summer dresses

My previous approach to dresses has typically fallen to the tent, tee, or sack side things—not because that's the most flattering option for me, but because I have a body shape that doesn't easily wear dresses. Hold on, though. We shouldn't merely abandon something out of the gate when faced with a challenge. This very post is a perfect example!

Best summer dresses

These pleated dresses require dedication in the fitting room. They aren't easy-on/easy-off. And they certainly aren't one-size-fits-all. Find the one that's right for you, though, and you're ready to breeze through summer with sandals or heels, for weekend or work. The moral? Don't give up, kids. In fashion, blogging, or life. How often can we say a dress teaches us a valuable lesson like that?

P.S. Don't miss the other key pieces! The relaxed button-down, the slouchy pant, the moto jacket, and the leather skirt. Images: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7
