Style Essential: The Structured Satchel

Satchel bags

I've always been a handbag hound. I remember carrying a purse at age five, though don't ask me what I transported in it. More recently, the six weeks I just spent in the wintry depths of Toronto reinforced for me the necessity of a stylish bag. After all, when we're swaddled from head to toe in puffy down parkas, accessories are the only thing we have to separate us from the animals!

Must have satchel bags

For the last while I've toted slouchy shoppers, stuffing everything from my laptop to my yoga clothes in them, but lately I find myself drawn to the more structured silhouette of the top-handle satchel. Variations on the theme include schoolgirl buckles or equestrian saddlery, but all have a decided air of handcrafted sophistication.

The essential satchel

For the height of satchel couture, street style connoisseurs subscribe to the three P's: Pashli, Phantom, and PS1. While I'm not up for the investment required by these designer darlings, I have spotted several classy alternatives. The ultimate, as far as I'm concerned, is the Balmoral Satchel by Belgrave Crecent. The company is the brainchild of This Is Glamorous blogger Roséline Lohr, and anything with her seal of approval is worth getting your hands on!

  1. I’m a huge satchel fan. Back in my schools days (20 years ago) I had a traditional brown one. I used it through school and rekindled my appreciation for it years later. Now gone, I have a veand spanking new one. And I love it!
