My enthusiasm for Instagram ebbs and flows. Lately I've been posting fewer photos, focusing instead on putting my phone down and staying present in the moment. Plus I've been conscious of a desire to avoid comparing my own life to the seemingly perfect photo feeds of others, a phenomenon about which I was honored to be interviewed for this recent New York Times article on Instagram envy. Yet for all that Instagram can distract us—or worse, deflate us—I do appreciate the platform for its ability to engage both visually and socially.
Since I've been missing Toronto quite a bit since returning home to LA after six weeks in that Canadian city, I've especially been enjoying the feeds of a few favorite northerners! From the frozen tundra of Minneapolis, Megan of MaeMae Paperie counters the winter blahs with bright, cheerful shots of her stationery and graphic design studio. Expect major color, type, and texture inspiration, with interiors and travel snaps thrown in for good measure.
If unadulterated romance with a side of serious style is your thing, Michele of Blush Shop is a must-follow. You'll find outfit ideas, bountiful bouquets, and palette-driven still lifes from the Southern Ontario boutique of the same name. Finally, in the heart of Toronto, Christine at Love the Design shares vignettes from her much-loved vintage emporium. Plus her images of the icy Canadian landscape almost make me wish I weren't lounging about in 80-degree weather right now. Almost being the operative word, of course!
Go Canada! We recently joined Instagram from up here in the great white north, too (late to the game, I know…)! So many talented and fun people to peek in on. And indeed, lots and lots of snow.

[…] you travel (or live abroad), it means you’re away from home. Which means these Instagrams from my home totally help. Thanks […]
