Palette Inspiration: Modern Blue and Gold

Modern blue + gold

The combination of blue and gold doesn't exactly scream fashion-forward. Sure it's great if you're a ship's captain, a tea sipping socialite, or an ardent Notre Dame fan. But for the rest of us plain folk, the pairing has stuffy connotations of mahogany étagères stocked with the fine china that grandma used only on special occasions.

Blue + gold palette

Yet lately the two hues have been looking mighty fine together—as though they snuck off when no one was looking and developed a new brand strategy—and I'm seriously reconsidering my previous prejudice against the pair. Especially when they unite in settings as snazzy Anthropolgie's collaboration with artist Ruan Hoffman. The collection is a modern take on traditional Delft blue and white, with gold accents for are more groovy than guache.

Blue + gold glam

For a sophisticated yet current take on the palette, team midnight, azure, or navy with a subtle dose of glitz. I'm always a fan of a black lampshade, but suddenly a deep Prussian blue sounds even better. Buy pieces separately (a metallic flecked throw pillow looks sharp next to one in ultramarine) and split them up if the charm wears off. And if you're really into the look, I'll bet you can persuade grandma to get out the good stuff!
