Girl Behind the Rug with Lulu & Georgia

Textured rugs

I’ve been a big fan of decor site Lulu & Georgia ever since they launched last year. Founder Sara Sugarman really knows her stuff—her family’s been in the interiors business since 1955—and she’s created a brand that is at once on-trend and timeless. So when she asked me to take part in her ‘Girl Behind the Rug’ series, in which I choose a favorite rug from the Lulu & Georgia collection and share why it speaks to me, I was on it like stink on a monkey.

My picks? I used the ‘Organic‘ filter on the site’s ‘Shop by Style’ function to select this unadorned yet unforgettable wool fringe area rug, then layered it with a Bauhaus-inspired graphic rug by Los Angeles artisans Commune. The two together suit my taste perfectly; their neutral sensibilities make them classic and versatile, with the interest coming from subtle details like texture, pattern, and workmanship rather than loud, look-at-me styling. In other words, they’re like the jeans and white button-down of rugs!

The Lulu & Georgia team also asked me to share a few favorite items that speak to my personality. Naturally I had to include my new fur baby Sadie, and also the crazy cat lady portrait that was a housewarming gift when I first arrived in LA. I guess you could say that my philsophy, in design and in life, is to keep it simple, keep it thoughtful, and don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself!
