Style Essential: The Global Bag

Global bags for spring

Every spring and summer, the fashion world goes gaga for global chic—and this year tribal styling feels especially hot. It makes sense, really. When the sun shines brighter, far-off travel destinations call a little louder and we all want to take a virtual vacation—even if it's only through our wardrobes. The perennial trend is one of my favorite ways to introduce a layer of interest to my wardrobe, especially with tribal totes and clutches that let me wear my black and have my color too!

Ethnic bags inspiration

This season I'm looking no further than Accompany for accessories that pack an exotic punch. The site was founded last fall by fashion industry veterans with the mission of changing the way we shop. The team scours the globe for one-of-a-kind items that are both beautiful and ethical. The result is a mix of apparel and home items that are luxe, lovely, and exquisitely crafted, yet that also honor the cultural heritage and make a positive economic impact in the global communities that produced them.

Global chic bags

On the handbag front this translates to raffia totes handwoven in Madagascar (love that pom pom trim!), intricately beaded clutches that combine traditional African craftsmanship with a striking art deco graphic, and beachy, rope-handled bucket bags from Laos. Until you're able to take an actual tropical holiday, you can carry a little piece of the world over your shoulder!
