Navy isn't exactly the most thrilling color in the spectrum. It usually flies under the radar, content to be black's slightly less versatile cousin. As a go-to for government staffers and prepsters alike, it has earned itself something of an uptight reputation. And when the hue last appeared in my own wardrobe—in the form of a stretch turtleneck that I routinely paired with overalls—it was 1996 and I was in the ninth grade. A time best forgotten for many reasons, fashion sins included.
Yet this summer navy feels almost…exciting. Not pop the champagne exciting, mind you. More like the little rush you get when you swap your usual vanilla latte for a caramel one. It's still a safe, reliable choice, but it's just different enough to make you feel like you're walking on the wild side. In other words, navy promises a sense of adventure without actually asking you to leave your comfort zone.
Fortunately, this season's iterations of navy veer nowhere near the halls of Congress or the Nantucket shore. Shapes are fluid and a little oversized for a sophisticated French girl effect. Fabrics like silk or linen are especially fresh. Pair today's navy with black, grey, denim or white, and whatever you do, stay away from the gold buttons!

Navy is my second favorite color. Totally classic and versatile but not boring and gloomy like black. Please stop dissing it.
i looove navy.
Navy is a go-to for me! I find that everything I used to buy in surplus in black or grey I now own in navy. Black is the city-dweller’s common thread, and grey gets a little drab after a while…so navy it is! I picked up an easy going navy summer dress that is just enough sophisticated when I’m sweating it out. That navy bag is a new want! 🙂
Navy has always been a favorite of mine! I love to mix varied hues 🙂
