I was reflecting yesterday on the various creative hobbies that I've had over the years. Playing music and writing fiction have played a major role in my life at various times, coming and going as time and circumstance has allowed. But the one thing that's stayed consistent has been the exploration and expression I do in the kitchen. Trying new recipes, planning a week's worth of satisfying menus, and setting a welcoming table offer the benefits of expression and exploration through color, taste, and texture—while happening to keep you fed at the same time!
But as with any creative pursuit, it's easy to get into a rut and find ourselves viewing cooking more as a chore than as pleasure—especially as winter drags on and the daily grind takes its toll! Yet with spring just around the corner, now is the perfect time to inject new life into your meal prep repertoire and your kitchen space. And the best part is that you don't need a renovation to do it!
Even the smallest of things can make the kitchen feel new again. Seek out fun linens for the table, artisinal ingredients to make that dish you've been dying to try from scratch but haven't found the time, baking tools to up your cookie game, and of course a just-released cookbook full of healthy and tasty recipes. Better yet, make room for the new by clearing your cupboards of the tools you haven't used in a while. Maybe it'll plant a spring cleaning seed to usher in warmer weather as well as a fresh perspective!
