I've been racing like a madwoman to complete a makeover of my kitchen, and it's really coming together (you can see a peek here!) One of the elements I was most excited to replace was the lighting. The existing sources of illumination in the kitchen left much to be desired as they were not only ineffective but also quite possibly the ugliest pendants and sconces in creation.
I went into my hunt thinking I wanted brass fixtures, but the more I thought about it the more I wanted to avoid something that might feel dated after not too long. So I went back to the drawing board and found myself leaning towards the simple yet strong silhouette of metal shade sconces in minimalist black. They feel at once modern and sleek but also timeless and sophisticated.
There were lots to choose from, some of them priced beyond my range but lovely to look at nonetheless. Still others fit my budget but were plug-in, rather than hardwired, and while it's possible to do the conversion yourself I wasn't in the mood to play electrician. Eventually I settled on some that I couldn't be more happy with—and I can't wait to share my picks when I reveal the whole kitchen. Stay tuned!
