Whoa you guys. Two recipes in one week. I know, it's unprecedented! But I really wanted to sneak this cocktail into the mix as it's perfect for Mother's Day brunch. Heck, I even named it the Mom Jeans—cracking myself up in the process—in honor of the juicy-bottomed pears that take center stage in this beverage. The smooth, buttery fruit combines with zingy ginger and effervescent sparkling wine to honor moms of all personalties.
I love this brunch cocktail as a refreshing alternative to that timeless go-to, the mimosa. It offers a nice change from the usual, but it slides just as easily into a menu that includes your favorite baked goods, egg dishes, and more. Plus also like mimosas, it's easy to prepare for a crowd and quantities can be adjusted depending on the desired juice-to-alcohol ratio.
As with any recipe, from-scratch ingredients work best. So if you have a juicer, now's the time to pull it out! Make the pear-ginger juice the night before and it will mellow nicely in the fridge. (Of course store bought pear nectar will still yield a delicious result.) As for your choice of alcohol, look for any sparkling wine with a semi-sweet, fruit-driven flavor profile. I used Chandon Délice as it nicely compliments both the mildness of pear and the bite of ginger. From this simple ingredient roster comes a refreshing cocktail as complex and irresistible as the woman it celebrates. Shout out to all the moms in the house!
The Mom Jeans
(makes 8)
sparkling wine
about 8 overripe pears or 16 oz pear nectar
1 large knob ginger
1 pear thinly sliced crosswise for garnish
If you're making your own juice, run the pears and the ginger through the blender. Strain as desired to remove any extra pulp. Alternatively, grate ginger into juice and let sit at least 4 hours, then strain. Chill wine and juice. To serve, into each glass pour 2 oz juice and top off with sparkling wine. Garnish with a thin slice of pear and serve!
are those the crate and barrel camille coupes? they’re beautiful (your drink obviously helps)!
